Tomorow will be PJ day in our kinder class. Your child is also invited to bring in their favourite stuffed animal. Thanks!
Happy Snow Day, or should I say Ice Day! We had most of our friends show up today, so it was business as usual, except we will be resheduling our Gospel Values Assembly until tomorrow. Our friends continue to prepare their hearts for the arrival of baby Jesus. We have been reading stories about His birth almost every day. Only 8 more sleeps... We love how creative our friends are in our class! We put out some material to make Christmas cards and were amazed at what we saw. Our students can really think outside the box! Two more days until Christmas Holidays. Please keep your eyes open for your child's Christmas ornaments for your Christmas trees at home and their presents from MmB and Mrs. Shackleton. We had a very special presentation today for our friend Niko. He is starting his vacation tomorrow and we didn't want him to miss his special award! We had a class assembly and presented his award to him. He was so proud. We explained to our friends that he received his award for the Gospel Value of Justice. Niko is a shining example of Justice in our FDK classroom everyday. He always shares, helps out and is quick to point out the rules to his friends in a kind way. Way to go Niko! Happy Monday! We had an exciting morning today! Matthew P's mom came into our room to make reindeers with candy canes today. It was amazing how different they all looked. Our students are so creative and really think outside the box. It is the 3rd week of Advent. Today we are lighting the candle of Joy. The third week of Advent is marked by the rose coloured candle which represents our love for God. This week we are "preparing our hearts and asking for Grace". Mrs. Shackleton led the liturgy today and we sang songs, said prayers and lit the candle as we gathered in the spirit of JOY. We are always keeping our ears open for math talk in the FDK classroom and today was not a disappointment. We had some students who wanted to make reindeer homes for thier newly made candy cane reindeer. They went and got the weighted number, number tiles, number stones and gems. The math talk that emerged was phenomenal. We heard them talking about portional reasoning (who had the greatest amount of weighted numbers), one to one correspondence with the gems and number tiles, numeral recogntion mathing the number tiles to the weighted numbers, counting by rote, and a helathy debate on whether the number 5 upside down is really the number 2!!! Thanks so much to all of our wonderful parents for your participation in our annual Christmas concert last night! It was a huge success! Our bunnies were so excited to perform for all of you after all the weeks of practising. We think they did an amazing job! Today was our dance a thon. Thanks so much for your generous donations. They will make a huge difference for a little boy or girl from our sister school St. Luke Ottawa. Next Friday is going to be our PJ day and dress up for Christmas Day. Can't wait to see our little ones all dressed up in the Christmas spirit. God bless and stay safe this weekend! Mme B was away the last few days due to illness. Thanks for your understanding. It was so nice to be back with our little bunnies today. We saw so much learning in our various open-ended centers. We put out some new loose parts today such as clips, magnets, paper clips, bolts, fastners... and we loved what we saw and heard. Jena exclaimed "I'm an engineer!" when she built a tiny robot car. Reese and Abby made an amazing winter wonderland out of loose parts and mirrors. They made skating rinks, a forest and a house. Sebastian made his own "lock" with Lillian today out of blocks. We challenged them by asking them to build a lock for it. Christmas cards were a huge hit today. Eirica proclaimed "Mme B, I found baby Jesus!" We continue to talk about the second week of Advent. We had our Kindergarten Advent liturgy on Monday and Mrs. Mac led it and explained to the children how it is the week of Peace. We sang songs and said prayers together and left in a spirit of peace. We are still collecting money for the dance a thon this Friday. Please ensure all money is sent in by Friday. Thanks so much! Our concert is tomorrow. We are sending home brochures today indicating our time of performance. Please bring your child to the computer lab, not our classroom...it will be locked. See you tomorrow!!! Today was our annual Advent Mass. Monseignor said that the kinders were the best behaved students in the school! Way to go Kinders!!! Our students prepared for the mass by "lighting" the 1st Advent candle in our classroom. We spoke about how Advent is a time of anxiously awaiting our Saviour. We used our Promise Stones to make special Advent promises to God today. Mrs. Shackleton recorded the responses and we made a beautiful web to show everyone. We had a very special visitor come to our FDK class today. Ms. Semenchuk, our public health nurse, came to our class to speak about healthy eating, what is an "everyday" food and what is a "treat", and how we need to take care of our teeth. Our children were so excited and engaged in this activity and we extended our learning during snack time by making sure that we all made "healthy" choices. Thank you to for the tape donations. Now we can continue the Christmas fun at our Art Center. Merci!!! |
