Sorry it's been so long since we've updated, but we've been so busy lately! Lots of visitors and special events. Here's a recap of some of the learning in the last 2 weeks. We had our CGE awards this past Monday and Brooke, Brian, Ryan and Owen were the recipients. The humane society was here on Monday and the students really loved the animals. 2 dogs and a cat visited us and the Human Society was overwhelmed by our generosity. The Ministry came to visit and videotape our class last Wednesday. Thanks for signed permission forms. The students were unbelievable. We had many positive comments on their curious and confident demeanor. Tomorrow is our Aboriginal Presentation with the Native Drummers. We can't wait to feel the beat and take part in the dancing and movement. We continue to focus on Growth and have had many other inquiries arise in the last week. One in particular would be our measurement inquiry which led to a re-creation of Jesus on our classroom floor made out of painters tape. We have such amazingly talented kids! Math Wednesday was in full swing with of all sorts of mathematical inquiries and wonderings. We used Andrew as our volunteer, and measured his length and width using our square wooden blocks. We estimated and then measured. John guessed the length correct and Caelen's guess on width was right too! Andrew loved being our volunteer and even did a little dance to entertain us! We further provoked this learning by bringing out our lego bin and asking the students to use it as a non-standard unit of measurement. We saw all sorts of things get measured from Dolls to Lego figures. Addition was happening with corks and twigs this afternoon with Brooke, Olivia and Abi L. We saw one to one correspondence with corks and number cards with Hayden and Caelen too! Some of our friends have mentioned that their Daddies can't make our Father's Day Fun Day. We just wanted to let everyone know that anyone can come to this special day as a special representative for our Daddies... Grandpas, Grandmas, Mommies, Uncles... Just send us in a brief note letting us know if someone else is coming in for Daddy. Thanks! See you all soon!!! Lots of wonderful new learning is happening all around us! We had an inquiry on blending colours today in our FDK classroom. Ms. Gray, who is in for Mrs. Moore, helped support this new inquiry with all sorts of amazing activities. We mixed colours at the art center and made beautiful paintings with the stencils. At science, Ms. Gray promoted this concept when we blew up a balloon using baking soda, vinegar and different shades of food colouring. The students made predictions as to what would happen when we mixed up the ingredients and put a balloon over the spout of the bottle. Everett predicted that the "bubbles will rise up until it falls over the edge" and Luca thought it would "blow up the balloon until it pops!". Mme. B sang songs about colours with the students and we played a matching colour game in French with our friends to build upon our learning. What a fun day! |
Mme Boudreau and Mrs. Shackleton
Hi! My name is Mme B and I have been teaching kindergarten for the last 10 years and teaching since 1996. This is my 4th year teaching full day kindergarten with the play-based model. I am learning so much from our students and look forward to each school day to see what new inquiries will emerge and grow! Archives
