Today we finished up our sunflower craft, worked on sorting seashells by size, wrote about spring in french, and completed our math problem of the day.
The children explored with watercolours, playdough, water and sand at our classroom centers.
We had 2 special visitors to our classroom today! 2 Canada geese came by to say "bonjour" during circle time this morning. They created a wave of excitement with our friends. Today we finished up our sunflower craft, worked on sorting seashells by size, wrote about spring in french, and completed our math problem of the day. The children explored with watercolours, playdough, water and sand at our classroom centers. Happy Monday! Today we finished our Art Wall Colour Collages. They look amazing! The children had so much fun playing "I spy..." finding items to glue to the canvases. Then they played "I spy.../Je vois..." with the collages. "Je vois une fleur..." We noticed that our grass really grew over the long weekend. The students were amazed how long it has grown and are making predictions as to how tall it will get. "I think it will grow to the ceiling!" Our "question du jour" was a hot topic today. The children were asked what they preferred, pizza or cake. Oh my! There were some big debates going on this morning! We graphed our results, made a tally sheet, and added up each column. Pizza was the big winner! Our fruit salad was delicious! Thanks so much to all of you who sent in fruit. "When we give fruit to share, it shows how much we care". We had a special visitor in our school today. Mr. G, who is an ECE student in our school, did a special "Science" presentation in the gym. We learned about making observations and making a hypothesis. We saw a ping pong ball "float", a beach ball "soar" and water "burp". The kids were amazed! We are continuing to work on spring vocabulary this week. It is so neat to see how fast some of our friends pick up these new words and are able to use them in their everyday conversations. "Je vois une fleur". Have a great long weekend and we'll see all of you on Monday! Today we worked on our first student created colour collage for our art center. Today we did the colour "ROUGE". The students did such an amazing job! It's so beautiful! As well, we started our visual representation of our sunflowers. They are up on display in the hall and are very neat. We also opened up our new water table today. The kids really enjoyed "fishing" for numbers and letters with our magnetic fishing rods. ***We are in need of hand sanitizer. If you are able to send some in with your child we would greatly appreciate it. Since Friday is a PD day, if you wish to send in fruit for our friendship salad, please do so tomorrow. THANKS! Please don't forget that this Friday, April 26th is a PD day and there is no school. We hope that you enjoy your long weekend.
Today we are starting a new sign-in system where the students answer a question by putting their face under their answer before coming to the learning carpet. They loved it! In French, we are talking about spring and some of the vocabulary that corresponds with this season. You will notice that your child will be bringing home these words with pictures daily as part of our writing center. We are still talking about castles, especially "les Princesses et les Princes". We have seen a lot of role playing at dramatic play and many pictures of princesses and princes. Our sunflower seeds are really staring to grow now! The students are observing that their "tiges" are coming out of "la terre". Tomorrow we will touch on this idea further with a craft which will continue to promote this inquiry. Today is gym. The students love this day of the week. They are focusing on ball play and gross motor control. Last night your SK child brought home their snuggle book. The purpose of this program is to help encourage your child to read daily. You should be reading the same book every day and pointing out sight words, word patterns, rhyming words, and making predictions. These leveled readers are meant to help with phonological awareness and memorization of sight words. The book is for your child to read to you. Please send it back every Friday. Your child may be reading at a level above or below the reader, however, the purpose of the book is to promote proficiency of sight words, phonemes, and reading patterns. Thanks!
Happy Earth Day! Today was a very special day at St. Stephen's. We celebrated both Earth Day and had our Easter mass. Our students were so well behaved during mass. They truly embraced the spirit of the occasion and showed their respect for both Jesus and God. Mrs. Shackleton spoke to the children about Jesus' journey on earth after his resurrection and we tied this into Earth Day by teaching the children that we are always in God's hands. A special note: Please do not send your child to school with shoes with laces if they are unable to tie them. There are 27 friends in our class and we do not have the time to tie everyone's shoes for them. As well, the children can trip easily over untied laces. Thank you so much for your cooperation. Above are some activities that the students were engaged in today. There are "lights" installed on a castle at the block center. As well, sorting buttons by colour, our "Earth Day" activity, tangrams at the light table, and our "tornado" water experiment at the science the center.
Today "pet rocks" visited our room! We made a terrarium for our new friends and talked about their special features, their habitat and their names. We also practiced writing our french vocabulary words as part of our "Castle" inquiry. These will be coming home tonight. At the art center, some of us used the salt and glue to make "salt pictures". It was so cool seeing our invisible pictures come to life. Please do not forget that tomorrow is friendship salad day. Please send in a ziploc bag of cut up fruit of your choice with your child tomorrow, and we will eat this as part of our morning snack. Tomorrow is "RED/ORANGE/YELLOW" day. Today was "white" day in kindergarten to celebrate the importance of the air in our lives. It was nice to see how many friends dressed for the occasion. Today we had a new writing activity that involved writing our classmates' names next to their picture. It was a popular activity. We completed our castle craft and our castles are now soaking up the sun. We're anxiously awaiting our grass seeds' growth. We continued with our puppet creations which will be finding their way home again tonight. As well, we recycled the carnations we used in our osmosis experiment and made some interesting artistic representations. We noticed today that our sunflower seeds are starting to sprout! We are so excited to see their continued growth! ***Kindergarten funny of the day: One of the students asked who was the boss of the class. I responded "Mme B and Mrs. Shackleton. We're a team." Then someone asked who was the boss of the school. I responded, "Mr. Santos and Mr. Oliver. They're a team." Then Brian says, "Mme B. Jesus and God are really the boss of the school. They're a team too!" Too sweet! |
Mme Boudreau and Mrs. Shackleton
Hi! My name is Mme B and I have been teaching kindergarten for the last 10 years and teaching since 1996. This is my 4th year teaching full day kindergarten with the play-based model.
