Here is a little "goodbye" from our kinders. Have a glorious summer! Love Mme B and Mrs. Shackleton.
It is with bittersweet sentiments that we say "goodbye" and "au revoir" to our kinders this school year. We look forward to a well deserved break and will see all our new SK students in September. We wish all our new "grade one" students all the best in the forthcoming school year and we will make sure we come and visit you. You are only just down the hall. Here is a little "goodbye" from our kinders. Have a glorious summer! Love Mme B and Mrs. Shackleton. Happy Monday. We hope everyone enjoyed the hot weather over the weekend. It's the last week of school! It's a bittersweet time of the year. The children deserve a break but we will miss them! We have lots of fun things planned this week. Stay tuned... The castle inquiry came back to our room this morning in full force! We saw at least 4 castles constructed in our classroom today, complete with fire pits, motes, draw bridges and dragons! Today is our end of the school year mass. We hope to see some of you there this afternoon. We are sending home much of the students' work accumulated over the school year. Please note that there are no journal entries in the last few months as we stopped putting our daily writing activities in this so we could send it home every day for you to see. Happy Friday!!! We enjoyed all the the yummy fruit in our salad this morning, thanks to all those who contributed. We used coloured spoons to eat our fruit salad and our little explorers soon discovered what would happen when we looked through them, and what our world looked like when we put two different colours together! The Ottawa Humane Society came to visit our class the morning, and the children learned about how to be safe around dogs and treat them with respect! We are going to enjoy St.Stephens Idol this afternoon, have a great weekend!! The Field Trip was a hit! The students had a blast learning the ins and outs of the grocery store and making fruit salad and cupcakes. A BIG thank you to all of our volunteers. The day's success is owed to all your patience and guidance. THANKS! We had an extra outdoor recess this afternoon to take advantage of all this glorious sun. The students went on a bug hunt and found so many beetles! Eek! Don't forget that tomorrow is fruit salad day. Please send in cut up fruit of your choice if possible. Un gros merci! Today was so busy in our kinder class! We had so many mini-inquiries happening all at once. We saw snakes, elderly people, and rare expensive gems. Jack S and Felix found a penny in the jewel basket. I asked them why it was there and they responded, "Mme, it's a very rare and expensive gems. This gem costs over 100 pennies!" Insects are still a huge topic of conversation. Rowan made his own spider out of Popsicle sticks, Chelsea made her own butterfly, and Owen O created his own snake habitat. Please do not forget that tomorrow is our field trip. Please send your child to school wearing sunscreen and a hat. For all parent volunteers, please be at school for 8:55am. Thanks! Happy Birthday Mrs. Moore! We sure are lucky we have such an amazing and energetic teacher to make our afternoons so fun and educational. We love you! Today we did creative art for Mrs. Moore's birthday, wrote and drew about insects, practiced our letters and read books at the reading center. In religion we are talking about forgiveness. We spoke about what we do when we are sorry, how to forgive and how it feels to accept an apology. We talked about the story of how Jesus treated a woman with kindness and pity when she had done something wrong and was sorry. Friday we are having a visit from the Ottawa Humane Society to talk about animal care. We can't wait! Happy Monday. We've noticed that it's been raining every Monday for the last few weeks. Hopefully mother nature changes up this pattern once summer arrives in a few days... The students were full of questions and discoveries today. We talked about Canadian coins and the students drew and labelled them on the smart board. We sang a song about them and what makes each one so special. We saw some students create their own coins at the art and writing table. We used real money and some students were able to successfully recall their names and values. Some of them even put them in order from least to greatest. Amazing! This Thursday is our class field trip to Browns. For all those parents who volunteered, please don't forget to show up shortly before 9am so we can leave as soon as possible. Thanks! We were busy little bees this morning. We finished up our Father's Day gifts and cards. They are so sweet, just like the students! Your children worked so hard on these naturally inspired creations. We also saw a lot of buggy creations crawling out of the art center. We saw caterpillars, butterflies and lady bugs. Speaking of lady bugs, we read a really neat french book online about "les coccinelles" which told the story of how the ladybug was missing its spots and colour. The students absolutely loved it! It enriched our inquiry and it was amazing how many friends knew the insects' names in french. Formidable! |

Hi! My name is Mme B and I have been teaching kindergarten for the last 10 years and teaching since 1996. This is my 4th year teaching full day kindergarten with the play-based model.
