Don't Forget: Tomorrow is picture day!
Welcome back! It's so wonderful to see everybody back from their March break and ready to play and learn! In our Kindergarten class we have SO many interesting inquiries happening right now! Our measurement inquiry is well underway, with lots of meaningful talk on perimeter. Today, Matthew, Niko, Liam and Howie built a hockey rink and showed their understanding of perimeter by buiding a boundary for their rink. They had lots of healthy debate on why it needed to be a rectangle, as rinks need to be long. Ben saw this learning, and built his own perimeter for his pet alligator! Bas has his own personal project on the go with creating a real 3D map of our classroom to use as a treasure map. He showed amazing algabraic reasoning when he added up his coins and made each side equal so that it would be fair. There is also an inquiry on the azalias which are in full bloom in our classroom. The students are thrilled by the beauty and are representing them artistically. Eirica and Megan are really interested in sharks and are making visual representations to show their wonderings. We will scaffold upon this new inquiry by bringing in some books about sharks to continue their learning journey. Please, please, please keep on the look out for loose parts to donate to our room such as: frozen juice lids, wahers, bolts, keys, locks, bread bag tags, twist ties, and buttons. Thanks so much! We love our loose parts!!! Merci! Welcome back! It's so wonderful to see everybody back from their March break and ready to play and learn! We love our loose parts!!! Merci! A warm welcome back to school on this cold spring day! We had great fun hearing all about the children's adventures during the March break. In religion, our class is hearing more about the meaning of Easter and how Jesus came to Jerusalem. It's our last day before the March break! We celebrated St. Patrick's day today by making a myriad of crafts. We saw 3D shamrocks, finger painted pot of golds, and shamrock stamping. So much original art developed in these centers. We love how our kids think outside the box. It's tax season and Austin is on it! He brought in his own Adding Machine and set up his own Tax Shop. Amelia was his assistant and kept track of all his appointments. It was quite funny! Maybe he can can do Mme B and Mrs. S's taxes for us? We also continued to build our Leprechaun traps. It was quite neat to see how many friends made these and how different and unique their creations are. Let's hope we can catch one of those tricky leprechauns! Have a wonderful break! Mme B and Mrs. Shackleton will miss all of you! Be safe and have lots of fun! God Bless! Today was a special day for our kinders! We had the Coast Guard come into our school for a very special presentation. We learned so much about water safety and the importance of the Coast Guard for our daily needs such as transportation of goods in the winter. Our friends were well bevaved during the presentation. Our friends continue to be interested in ramps and inclines. We are also seeing lots of spontaneous patterning with our loose parts. Mariana even explored addition today with jewels. Please come and take a look at our school lost and found. We are going to be donating the itmes this Friday, before the March break. We had just finished cleaning up before getting ready for afternoon consolidation time. Mrs. Shackleton and I had a visitor come in to talk to us for a few moments. The students spontaneously joined together in this game of ring around the rosie while they were waiting for us to come to the learning carpet. We were so impressed how they chose to use this time to join together for a fun and cooperative activity. I especially love how Lillian tells the friends that it is "too loud" and how the students, without discussion, immediately decide to lower the volume of their voices to honour her feelings. We truly have a very special group of kinders! Today was quite a busy day in Kindergarten. Our ramp inquiry was in full "force". Mrs. Shackleton created a really neat provocation with tubes and marbles. The students took the materials and ran with it! We saw all sorts of student created marble runs. It was really interesting to see how the students figured out the properties of gravity and momentum. Audrey and Matthew P figured out that if you put a long tube at the bottom of the marble run it will travel a great distance due to gravity, and the higher the marble run, the faster the marble propells down. We have some great scientific minds in our classroom! Maggie made a great discovery today. She began buidling a staggered wall with wooden discs and then continued stacking objects to create different types of walls. She experimented with various techniques and realized that objects needed to be equally balanced for her walls to be sturdy. Our class collected over 40 lunches today for our double lunch day for the Ottawa Mission. Thank you so much for your generous donations. Our school collectively collected over 300 lunches!!! We are still looking for old locks, keys, washers, nuts and bolts for our science center. If you happen to have any of these items we would glady accept any of your donations. Merci!!! As part of our double lunch day to support our Lenten project, our class will be making some extra lunches to supplement those children who are not able to bring in a second lunch to give to the Ottawa Misssion. We are looking for some extra donations of apples and juice boxes. Mme B and Mrs. S will make the sandwiches to add to these lunches. Thanks so much for all you do! We are truly blessed to have such wonderful and giving parents and caregivers!!! God Bless! |
Mme Boudreau and Mrs. Shackleton
Hi! My name is Mme B and I have been teaching kindergarten for the last 10 years and teaching since 1996. This is my 4th year teaching full day kindergarten with the play-based model. I am learning so much from our students and look forward to each school day to see what new inquiries will emerge and grow! Archives
