A BIG thank you to all the parent volunteers today. We could not have done it without you!
Tomorrow is baking day. If you wish, we are accepting non-perishable food items for the food bank. We will be baking pumpkin bread. Yummy!
Happy Halloween! We had a wet and wild time at Saunders Farm this morning. We went in the mazes, enjoyed a wet puppet show and went for a tractor ride in the forest. We came back a bit early due to the rain. We came back to school and Mr. Santos was waiting with hot chocolate! We grabbed our blankets and had a picnic on the carpet and watched a Halloween movie. A BIG thank you to all the parent volunteers today. We could not have done it without you! Tomorrow is baking day. If you wish, we are accepting non-perishable food items for the food bank. We will be baking pumpkin bread. Yummy! Today in kindergarten, our Grade 3 reading buddies came for a visit. We worked on Halloween vocabulary in both French and English and continued to point out sight words. Today was crazy hair day! We saw all sorts of crazy hair and hats! Check out the pics of some of the spookier hair dos! Today we decided to plant our pumpkin seeds in a container as they were starting to get squishy in the pumpkin. It was a good lesson for us relating to planting conditions. Lets see what happens now... Don't forget...tomorrow is the Field Trip. Please dress for the weather. The forecast is calling for light rain, so raincoats, splash pants and rubber boots are highly recommended. Please send your child with a brown bag disposable lunch. It is also orange and black day tomorrow. Magazine orders are being accepted and the deadline is Nov. 15th. Thanks so much for all your support in this endeavor. Today in Mrs. Moore's room, we created our own "citrouilles". They are quite scary. We talked about what colour each part of the pumpkin is, what it is and encouraged our friends to be creative! At the block center, the students made their own "maison hantée". We created our own "maison hantée" at the art center and talked about all the spooky creatures that live inside! We had a special visitor this morning. Constable Archibald visited our class to talk about Halloween safety. We spoke about safe masks/costumes, what to do while trick or treating to be safe and how our parents should inspect our candy before we eat it. Some of the girls decided it would be fun to make their own Canada Flag. They have been working really hard at singing our national anthem in French. It was wonderful to see how inspired they were! A very important note is coming home with your child today. We need all parents to sign a new permission form for our field trip this Thursday. Due to weather conditions, we are changing the venue to Saunders Farm. It is very important that all permission forms are completed by Thursday morning. Mme B has created a new website which chronicles her personal journey in the FDK program, teaching philosophies, and pedagogy. Check it out: http://100languagesofkindergarten.weebly.com/
Happy Monday! We hope you all had a spooky weekend. Mrs. Shackleton went to Saunders Farm with her girls. They loved the haunted hay ride, but Mrs. Shackleton thought the haunted house was too scary! We continued our Halloween inquiry today by creating our own "sick pumpkin". It threw up all over the place. Mrs. Shackleton placed baking soda, food colouring and then vinegar in the hollowed out pumpkin. We made predictions as to what we thought would happen. Ryan guessed it would explode. Caelen said that it would fill to the top, take on the shape of the pumpkin and then spill out of the holes. Jena thought that it would burst open and go all the way to her house. Check out our pictures to see what really happened! At the art center, we made ghosts out of tissue paper and paper plates. It's really neat to see that each ghost is as different as each student. Just a reminder that the field trip is this Thursday, rain or shine. Please look for the note that was sent home in your child's mailbag. Today we decided to take the seeds we found in our pumpkin and plant them right in the pumpkin. Each student had the opportunity to come and add their own seed to the pumpkin, we watered it and placed it in the sun. We can't wait to see what will happen! We also set up a provocation for the students...we placed a frame with the days of the week in French and the numbers only up to the number 7, empty boxes, and then ending in 31. We did not say what it was or what to do. We just waited and watched. It took about 10 minutes before John casually walked over, grabbed a black marker and continued the numbers all the way to 31! We asked him why he did that. He just shrugged and then gently said, "because it is a calendar" and walked away! Wow! We left our new calender there and some students came over with stickers to decorate it and then John returned with the word "Octobre" to add to it! We also had a "flying inquiry" today that was sparked when Matthew and Brian decided to take clothes pins and attach them to dinky cars. We made a web about all the things that could fly and talked about what we needed to fly. Matthew surprised us all when he said, "things fly because the wings pick up the wind". WO Don't Forget: Our Family Halloween Movie Night is Friday. We hope that everyone has a great weekend and we will see you back on Monday. Wow! What an exciting day we had in kindergarten! We opened up our big pumpkin. Eww! We found seeds inside. We guessed how many there were inside. Most of our friends guessed there were over 100. There are actually 423! Tomorrow we are going to plant the seeds in soil and see what happens! We opened new sensory bins today. We have a "Halloween sensory bin" filled with all sorts of creepy Halloween creatures. The students were able to identify the creatures in French, name their colours in French and some even extended the activity by making patterns, sorting, and counting. Wow! Mrs. Shackleton brought in wood pellets for the sand table and we added some creepy creatures to it as well. At the Art center, we made les citrouilles out of paper plates and tissue paper. They are so life-like! Thank you so much for the play-dough that what sent in! The students used it to create spooky monsters. They even noticed that when all the colours were mixed together they made noir. The weather is turning quite cold in the morning. We ask if you could kindly send your child to school with mittens to keep their little hands warm. Thanks! Happy Monday! We hope you all enjoyed the weekend. Mme B didn't make it to Saunders Farm because of the rain. She did cheer on Mr. B in the 9run run race on Saturday. It was such a beautiful day for a run! Mrs. Shackleton raked leaves and cut wood with her family over the weekend. Today our Halloween inquiry was in full force! We sang the song "5 petits citrouilles/5 little pumpkins" and made a pumpkin craft to support our learning. In our daily writing, we used our French Halloween vocabulary words. We saw many "squelettes" and "momies" today. We also had an assembly today to launch our magazine fund raiser. More information is being sent home today in your child's mailbag. We are in need of play-dough in our classroom. If you can replenish our supply, we would greatly appreciate it. Orange would be fabulous!!! See you Wednesday! Happy Friday! Our baking was a huge success! The oatmeal raisin cookies were delicious! We ate them as our desert at lunch. A "gros merci" to all parents who sent in items for the food bank. We even decorated our box. It's so pretty! We spoke about the importance of giving today with our students. They were so proud to have contributed to our community in such a meaningful way. Today we completed our second writing sample for our portfolios. The students were asked to draw a picture of one of our French Halloween vocabulary words, and could copy from a model or sound out the word. Some of our JK students were able to sound out the beginning sound of the word! We saw "C" for la citrouille, and "B" for les bon bons. We are so proud of their hard work! In religion, we talked about the importance of protecting God's creation. We added a tree to our religion table to show our love for all of God's work. Mme B is planning on taking her children to Saunders Farm this weekend. Maybe she will see some of you there! Have a wonderful weekend and see you all back here on Monday! God Bless! |
